MCP enables Agents to transact commerce
I used to think that AI agents might be the use case that crypto currency was waiting for, but seeing MCP in action has changed my mind.
Take Zapier's launch today.
Zapier didn't launch a general MCP endpoint for all users -- they launched a custom endpoint for each user.
That custom endpoint acts as an MCP server that operates within a user's specific data and billing profile. It's like a URL and an API key rolled into the same thing.
When an agent uses this endpoint, all the tools it invokes already have access to the user's context. Payment isn't something the agent needs to do directly; it's something that has been arranged in advance, at the service side, as with traditional API consumption.
I see no reason why every company's MCP server shouldn't have user-scoped endpoints like this.
It's such a seemless way to add commerce to agents that leverages the current metering and billing systems already in place.
